Ellen Page to Star in Netflix Series 'The Umbrella Academy'

It has just been announced that Ellen Page has been cast in one of the lead roles of Netflix's upcoming series The Umbrella Academy. The show is based on the comic book series created by former My Chemical Romance frontman Gerard Way, and follows the estranged members of a dysfunctional family of superheroes called the Umbrella Academy — the Monocle, Spaceboy, the Kraken, the Rumor, the Séance, Number Five, the Horror and the White Violin — as they work together to solve their father’s mysterious death while coming apart at the seams due to their divergent personalities and abilities.

Page is slated to play Vanya, the black sheep of her dysfunctional family. She’s the only one of Reginald Hargreeves’ adopted children with no supernatural abilities. A meek and insecure wallflower, Vanya struggles to find her place in the world.

The Umbrella Academy is being executive produced by creator Gerard Way and experienced producer Steve Blackman, who has worked on Fargo and Legion. It also happened to make our list for most anticipated upcoming Netflix series.

The new series is currently expected to debut sometime in 2018.
